UNCTAD's Network of Centres of Excellence continues its cooperation with the Agricultural Genetic Engineering Research Institute (AGERI), by organising a training course on "Biosafety and GMO detection" in Giza, Egypt, from 9 to 20 November 2008. The 2-week course aims at building the capacity of African scientists and researchers by providing them with high-level practical skills and theoretical knowledge, which will help them to take an active part in the development of science within their institution and country. It will focus on various aspects of Biosafety, such as regulations and international agreements, risk assessment/management, food safety, monitoring techniques, and GMO detection. The course includes both lectures and practical training, delivered by AGERI's highly qualified experts. Twenty African scientists and researchers working in the field of biotechnology will be selected to attend the training course in Giza. Selected participants will travel to Egypt and receive tuition-free training, accommodation and meals for the duration of the course. The selection of participants is on a competitive basis and only outstanding applicants will be chosen.
